This last Friday night at Stevens we celebrated those students who were graduating this month. Each of the five shared their plans and what had meant the most to them. Many shared how the friendship of those coming on Friday nights had helped them adjust and feel welcome. One of these students asked if he could share his testimony. It is attached below. It doesn't get
more exciting than this.
Limeng Pan's Testimony
Hello, my Christian fellowship. I’m Limeng from Financial Engineering in Stevens and I’m glad to graduate this semester. After I attended this Friday bible study for more than one year, I’d like to share with you the transformation of my acknowledgement about Christianity.
I grew up in an atheistic family in China. Some people think Chinese people are Buddhists. Well, that’s not true, traditional religions are more like a cultural background, like many people in USA celebrate the Christmas but don’t know the profound Christian meaning inside. Actually in my family, no one has really seriously considered the religious belief, except for my grandmother on my mother side. She goes to the local church every Sunday, prays for every meal and worships the God, but I used to think she was odd and idolized the superstitions.
However, since I attended this Friday bible study here, my attitude gradually changes. The first shock is that Christianity isn’t a superstition like I used to think. I realized that Christianity is about the beginning of the world, the logic of the world and the purpose of the world. Science is a kind of theory concluded from the experience and experiments. However, Christian belief is a philosophy about the ultimate question on a higher level.
The second shock is that Christian people are those who take their religion seriously. Some people like the Amish, even refuse to use modern technology for religious reasons. I think Christian people are the most courageous and firmest people who put their Christian belief into practice. Even if the bible is hard to understand and sometimes obscure, the Christian people keep learning the bible and actively participate in charity events for practicing the God’s love.
The third shock is that the people here are so friendly and kind to me. You guys are willing to talk and share American culture with me, even if I was bad in oral English and sometimes not responsive. These keeps asking me, what the motivation is behind. The answer is Christian belief. If everyone is created by God, then all of us should be equal and help with each other, love each other. Like John 4:19 said: We love because he first loved us.
Thank you all the volunteers shared the bible story with Stevens students. And thank Katie from the Vroom Church and other friends for introducing a church in Shanghai after I go back to my hometown. I really had a great time in the Friday bible study and wish you have a merry Christmas.
more exciting than this.
